WEX Inc. a leading international provider of physical, digital and virtual corporate card payment solutions, today announced a strategic partnership with CashStar, a leading global digital gifting and incentives company, to offer eGift Card services in Australia and New Zealand. WEX is one of the largest gift card processors in the Australian and New Zealand markets, and this new platform adds to its capabilities customized for the region.
“Gift giving has changed rapidly with technology and we have seen increasing demand for digital, or eGift Cards, across the retail sector as well as in corporate gifting, incentives and rewards,” said Sonia Ciaglia, general manager, Prepaid Cards, Wright Express Australia. “Our partnership with CashStar allows us to provide our customers with the latest digital gifting capabilities in time for the upcoming holiday giving season, and our platform enables retailers to take advantage of this exciting new channel to drive sales.”
The new platform will enable retailers to provide their customers with a unique digital gifting experience via email, mobile and social channels. Consumers in Australia and New Zealand will now be able to conveniently purchase eGift Cards online and personalize them with custom messages, photos or videos. The companies will launch the combined product offerings later this year.

CashStar’s platform is also the first and only eGifting solution to integrate with the Passbook app in Apple’s iOS 6 platform.
Retailers, financial institutions and major technology players have all recently announced versions of mobile wallets. Passbook, which has been installed by over 200 million iPhone and iPod Touch users since its debut in September, will allow consumers to add their eGift Cards to their device with one easy click. With Passbook’s location-based capabilities, consumers will also have the option to receive notifications when they are near retail locations where they can redeem their eGifts.
“As CashStar continues its momentum in the U.S. and UK and looks to expand globally, we wanted to find a partner who has paved the way for growth in other global markets,” said David Stone, co-founder and CEO of CashStar. “WEX has a proven track record of success with physical, digital and virtual corporate card payment solutions. Combined with its strong presence in Australia and New Zealand, WEX’s leadership position will help us bring our eGift Card offerings to this growing market and continue to expannd.
